Couple brings Thanksgiving dinner to area residents

Veterans Tonya and Robert Robinson are now retired from serving their country, but they are still serving their community.

“I love cooking, so I am going to be making a Thanksgiving Day dinner anyway, and if I can make Thanksgiving better for others, it makes me happy. Besides it isn’t that much work because my husband helps me,” she said.

One of the reasons the couple thought it would be nice to make and deliver Thanksgiving dinners is that last year during the spread of COVID-19, most churches canceled their Thanksgiving dinners, and most churches are not having a community Thanksgiving dinner this year.

The couple wants people to know they are not doing this for glory, but because they simply want to help the members of their community.

Tonya said she had no idea she would receive so many responses on what a nice thing they were doing when they posted on the Pleasant Valley Community Facebook page offering to make and deliver Thanksgiving meals for shut-ins, people who are nervous about going out to shop for the items to cook a meal, or anyone who is not able to cook.

They have also reached out to area churches and have asked if they have any church members who might need or want a meal on Thanksgiving.

According to the couple, it is the right thing to do and Tonya said, “Besides, it fills our hearts to be able to help others and make life just a little easier for someone else. We just want to reach out and help others,” she said.

“We are so blessed to have such good friends. Our friends Crystal and Oscar Price own a restaurant and they have donated all the paper products used to package a meal.”

The meal includes roasted turkey with cornbread chicken dressing, a southern family favorite, Tonya said.

The meal will also include mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, coleslaw and a cupcake or a brownie.

All you need to do is to call Tanya Robinson at 570-460-7448 and leave a callback number so that she can contact you and answer any questions you have, as well as get the directions on where to deliver the food.
