Truck drivers charged after Tamaqua road rage incident

Two truck drivers were cited following what police say was a “road rage” incident that occurred on Nov. 8 at 9:50 a.m. at the intersection of Route 309 (Center Street) and Spruce Streets.

Police identified the two involved as Dennis M. Deaver, 47, of Virginia AvenueShenandoah, and James Pearce, 50, of Grape Vine Drive, New Tripoli.

On the date and time listed Pearce arrived at the police station to report he had been assaulted. He claimed he was driving northbound on 309 and passed a dump truck on the right side while operating a pickup truck, as both entered the borough. Pearce said he stopped for a red traffic light and Deaver got out of his truck and approach his. He got out of his vehicle and was pushed hard in the chest by Deaver. He said he was concerned because has a pacemaker. He got a picture of the truck’s DOT number. He was also told he should have remained in his vehicle and called 911.

The police traced the number to Deaver, who came to the station. He claimed Pearce approached him at a high rate of speed and he attempted to move to the right to let him pass. Instead, Pearce passed on the right. As he passed, Deaver claimed, Pearce slowed down and made a gesture towards him and yelled at him. At the red light he claimed Pearce ran towards him in a threatening manner so he pushed him with his hands in the chest area. The two men then got back into their trucks.

Deaver said Pearce followed him for about 5 miles, trying to cut him off and making gestures at him.

Both men were told they would each be charged with disorderly conduct.
