Tree decorating contest

The Schuylkill County Historical Society is holding its annual tree-decorating contest through Jan. 8. Local historical societies and other organizations are entering their trees, which will be on display at the Society’s building at 305 N. Centre St., Pottsville.

Members of the public can vote as many times as they want for their favorite tree. Each vote will cost $1, and each group will receive all proceeds from the votes for its tree. For more information, call 570-622-7540 or email sch.hist@comcast.net.

Boilo class

Amy Dougherty, who operates a boilo business, will lead a class on how to make this popular regional beverage from 6 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 1, at the Schuylkill County Historical Society, 305 N. Centre St., Pottsville.

Participants must bring a one-pint Mason jar and ½ cup to one cup of their preferred alcohol. The evening will end with boilo sampling.
