Palmerton has opted to bring back its Junior Firefighter Program, and in doing so, named a third-generation firefighter as its first member.
Borough council unanimously agreed on Thursday to appoint Kameron Behler to the program.
Kameron is the son of borough fire Chief Jason Behler, and the grandson of former Chief Dennis Behler.
Councilman Kris Hoffner explained that council decided to reinstate the program.
“We are in dire need of firefighters,” Hoffner said.
After the meeting, borough Manager Donna McGarry said the program was initially started in 2002, but had limited participation since.
“It has been available, and now we have someone willing to participate,” she said.
