West Penn Police said a report Wednesday night about shots fired was not valid.

“It’s an unfounded incident,” confirmed Jim Bonner, West Penn Police Chief.

Police were called about shots coming from a car about 7 p.m. near the Carbon County line.

Police from many departments were called and a car was stopped in East Penn Township.

Bonner said the car was “backfiring” and the caller thought the sounds were gunshots.

“It was determined that there were no gun shots fired.”
