Basket raffle help

Diana Everitt and Angela Schwartz have set up a basket raffle to benefit the family of 9-year-old Emma Werner, who died as a result of a car accident over Halloween weekend.

All money raised from the basket raffle will be going to Emma’s family.

Anyone wishing to donate a basket is asked to call Schwartz at 806-319-7618 or Everitt at 570-620-6208. Donations should be handed in by Dec. 8 to allow for organization time.

The raffle is being held on Dec. 11, at Indian Mountain Rod and Gun Club Road in Kresgeville, beginning at noon.

Chili sale ends

Anyone wanting to buy a quart of chili from Effort UMC who has not placed an order must do so today. The church phone number is 717-629-1890.

The pickup date is after each service this Sunday.

Community supper

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is again hosting a free drive-thru supper today, from 5-6 p.m.

Eldred meeting

Eldred Township supervisors will meet at 7 tonight at the municipal building on Kunkletown Road.

Stitching Christmas

The Quilts made with Love group of the Western Pocono Women’s Club is meeting at a member’s home Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. to around 3 p.m., to work on quilts that have Christmas-themed fabrics to be donated to Meals on Wheels clients.

Food drive ends

The PVMS Student Government food drive is ending Thursday.

Those donations will be given to the Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network food pantry.

PVI PTO meets

The Pleasant Valley Intermediate PTO is slated to meet from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday.

Missions dinner

On Thursday, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., West End Missions will host a dinner, for takeout only, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville.

Lunch choices

Seniors attending the Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, are reminded to call Donna Riedel, manager, at 570-242-6770, to let her know of their order for the hot lunch offered this coming Friday and next Wednesday. They are, respectively: garlic broccoli and shells for Friday and sausage calebrese for next Wednesday.

The center will be closed both Thanksgiving Day and the following day as well.

Trees and lights

From Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, comes this request: if anyone has any size Christmas trees in good condition that one would like to donate for the church’s Christmas program, contact the office at 570-992-6799 or email olga@pvag.net.

The church is asking for lights to be donated. A list is available so that all will be uniform.

PVSD board meets

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the District Office.

League meeting

The West End Little League is having its open to the community monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park building in Brodheadsville.

Honor Guard time

The Honor Guard from the American Legion Post 927 has a practice session on the calendar for 6 p.m. Thursday.

OTOH fall drive set

The Operation Touch of Home fall drive will be held Friday through Sunday.

Library craft fair

The Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville, is having its 40th annual craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

WPCL programs

The West End Park and Open Space Commission is hosting a bingo event on Friday, beginning at 6:30 p.m., at the Chestnuthill Park, 221 Route 715, Brodheadsville.

Doors open at 6 p.m.

Players can start the weekend with a fun Friday evening. They are invited to bring along friends and family, too.

There will be specials and refreshments.

The event will follow current COVID-19 health guidelines. Masks and social distancing are encouraged. People are asked to remain home if not feeling well.

Patriot’s ball

The Legion Riders of the American Legion in Gilbert are sponsoring a Patriot’s Ball on Saturday, at The Center 100 Hotel, 7736 Adrienne Drive, Breiningsville.

The cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m., dinner is at 7 p.m. Featured will be DJ Slacker. Formal attire is required.

Cherub choir

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will celebrate the talents of the children in the Cherub Choir at its 8 a.m. service this Sunday.

Sunday focus

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will put its focus on Thanksgiving Sunday during this Sunday’s worship service.

On Nov. 24, the church will be the host site of a community Thanksgiving service, combining with the United Methodist congregations of Effort, McMichaels, and Neola, at 7 p.m.

Everyone, of any denomination, is invited to worship at this service.

Special presentation

A special presentation of Surviving the Holidays will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Peter’s UMC, seeking to help transition those who are grieving through the difficult festive holidays.

Sessions are held every Sunday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Drop-in participants are welcome.

Special speaker

James Osinski, a missionary of the Gospel to college students, will be speaking at Middlecreek Christian Church in Kresgeville on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

He is supported by the church, as well as other supporters, to be part of DiscipleMakers, a Pennsylvania-based Christian campus ministry.

Osinski is currently serving students at Kutztown University to teach and encourage them to become disciples of God.

There will be a time of refreshments after the service.

Craft fair/bake sale

The Blue Ridge Hook & Ladder Fire Company Auxiliary is having a craft fair and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

There will be crafts, including hand-knitted sweaters, crocheted items, natural soaps, gifts for the home, Liztech Pins and many other items.

Pictures can be taken with Santa from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In addition, the Auxiliary will be having its Spiderweave quilt raffle drawing, bake sale, and lunch will be served.

The firehouse is located on Route 115 across from Ye Olde Saylors Inn in Saylorsburg.
