State police at Lehighton investigate crashes

State police at Lehighton reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers:

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 12:45 p.m. on Nov. 6 along Interchange Road (Route 209), in Franklin Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Alison D. O’Donnell, 46, of Palmerton, was driving a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe southbound and approaching Elm Street while Drew M. Hoffman, 32, of Lehighton, driving a 2017 Ford Explorer, was behind her.

O’Donnell began to slow down to make a left turn and came to a stop. Hoffman was unable to stop in time with his vehicle going onto the berm and up an embankment, striking a tree. It then continued southbound down the embankment and struck the right rear of O’Donnell’s vehicle. The Explorer had to be towed. No one was injured.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 9:28 p.m. on Oct. 31 along Interchange Road in Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said David D. Hertzog, 62, of Albrightsville, was driving a 2018 Hyundai Kona northbound when a deer entered the road in front of him. He could not stop in time and his vehicle struck the deer.

Hertzog was not injured but his vehicle had to be towed.

• A three-vehicle crash was reported at 12:35 p.m. on Nov. 14 at the intersection of Interchange Road and Scenic Drive, in Polk Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Mary J. Savarese, 61, of Lehighton, driving a 2017 Honda Civic, was southbound on 209, Mark A. Kachline, 62, of Kresgeville, driving a 2009 Honda Civic, was northbound on 209 and Simone M. Kirkwood, 34, of Kunkletown, driving a 2016 Subaru Forester, was approaching the intersection on Scenic Drive.

While Savarese was attempting to overtake a vehicle that was turning onto Scenic Drive, her vehicle struck Kachline’s vehicle on the north side of the intersection. The collision was sideswiped, troopers said, that resulted in minor damages to Kachline’s vehicle. Kirkwood was turning left onto 209 and her vehicle was struck by Savarese’s vehicle.

Savarese, Kirkwood and her passenger, a 12-year-old boy, were all taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono, East Stroudsburg, for treatment of injuries. Kachline was not injured. Savarese’s and Kirkwood’s vehicles had to be towed.

Troopers cited Savarese for the crash.
