St. Luke’s Hospice hosts remembrance service at Becky’s

Approximately 60 families took part in a drive-in version of the luminaria lighting service hosted by St. Luke’s Hospice Saturday at Becky’s Drive-in Theatre, Route 248, Berlinsville.

Michelle Udicious, director of community outreach and referral management for St. Luke’s Hospice, said this was the second year at Becky’s, with changes made due to COVID-19.

“The weather and the cold, people can stay warm in their cars. We are continuing to hold it here because it’s a unique way to do this,” Udicious said,

People were able to tune in to their car radios for an audio-video presentation that was displayed on the theater’s screen. David Heintzelman started the video program, thanking all who attended and explained the process for the program.

The program included Anne Huey, St. Luke’s Hospice Spiritual Services Manager, a tribute to veterans, and discussions led by St. Luke’s Grief Coordinators/Counselors Katie Ruf, Heather Myers, and Alexandra Becker.

Each car received a welcome packet that included the special luminaria bag and a battery-powered tea light. Part way through the program, they lit the candles and set the bags on their dashboards.

St. Luke’s Hospice offers a variety of programs to help people deal with the grief of losing a loved one. Visit http://www.sluhn.org/griefsupport for information.
