St. Luke’s Carbon set for Saturday opening

St. Luke’s Carbon campus received its final licensing from the Department of Health on Monday, clearing the way for opening Saturday.

The Carbon Campus, located just off Harrity Road in Franklin Township, will open at 7 a.m. Saturday. Simultaneously, the Lehighton Campus Emergency Room, located at 211 North 12th St., will close at 7 a.m.

The first patient transfer from Lehighton (and all others) will be supported by Lehighton Ambulance and begin at 7 a.m.

The $80 million hospital has three stories and is 155,000 square feet. The hospital’s inpatient unit has 80 beds. The emergency department will have 17 when the hospital opens, with plans to expand.

More than 30 specialists will be based full-time at the hospital, including a cancer specialist and a vascular surgeon.

The health center and cafeteria will be open to the public, and St. Luke’s plans to set up walking trails around the property.

The Carbon Campus will be home to 500 employees for now, with more planned in the future.

In total, St. Luke’s currently employs 1,100 local community members between all of the Carbon locations.
