Council approves Bike Night next year

Bike Night will ride back on in to Bowmanstown next year.

Borough council on a 6-1 vote Tuesday agreed to hold the event on Sept. 24, 2022. Councilwoman Kara Scott was opposed.

Scott said she was not comfortable that the borough had to close down several streets to accommodate the event this year.

Councilwoman Candace Rodrigues, who served as organizer of the event, said she believes the event raised around $1,000.

Rodrigues said after this year’s event that the fire department would receive proceeds from what it raised, while the rest would go toward the community.

Hosted by Rodrigues Bike Event, Bike Night was held this year at the Bowmanstown Fire Company in September.

Up until 2019, an event known as Lehighton Bike Night ran for 21 years in the Lehighton area, including most recently at the former Riders Resort in Franklin Township for a three-year span.

Before that, Lehighton Bike Night was held in 2016 at the Mahoning Drive-In and raised $2,700 for Valor; in 2015, it was hosted by the Franklin Township Fire Company; and in 2014, it was held at the Grove in Lehighton.

Initially, Lehighton Bike Night had been held in the borough’s lower and upper park each of the previous 15 years.
