Firefighters battling Coaldale blaze

Firefighters responded to a second-alarm house fire in the Seek section of Coaldale Sunday.

The fire was reported shortly after 5 p.m. in a half double block home along lower Greenwood St. and was quickly upgraded to a working fire. A supervisor with the Schuylkill County Communications Center said there were no injuries.

“Everyone evacuated,” he said.

A home was heavily damaged by fire Sunday evening in the Seek section of Coaldale.

The fire was believed to have started in the basement area possibly electrical in nature. The flames quickly spread throughout the two- and one-half story single family wood frame dwelling.

Firefighters were using saws to open up the roof for ventilation. Fire companies from throughout Schuylkill and Carbon countries responded to the scene.

The fire was under control at 5:45 p.m. Crews left the scene by 8 p.m.

Responding were fire department from Coaldale, Tamaqua, Summit Hill, Lansford, Tuscarora, West Penn, the Rapid Intervention Team from Pottsville, and EMS units from Tamaqua and Ryan Township Rehab.
