State police at Fern Ridge - crashes

State police at Fern Ridge reported on the following crashes:

• Troopers said a crash occurred on Oct. 25 at 3:11 p.m. at the Penn Forest Township transfer station, located along Transfer Station Road.

Troopers said Jenna L. Fiorentino, 37, of Jim Thorpe, was stopped at a dumpster operating a 2020 Volkswagen Jetta. Fiorentino and an employee of the township were unloading garbage from her vehicle. Troopers said Rolland Rhodomoyer, 78, of Jim Thorpe, was behind Fiorentino and was unable to stop with his 2002 Ford F150 truck striking the Jetta and the station employee, Robert L. Sloss, 26, of Albrightsville.

Rhodomoyer was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, for medical evaluation and Sloss was taken to the St Luke’s Lehighton Campus. Troopers were assisted at the scene Lehighton ambulance, Penn Forest Fire Rescue and Jim Thorpe Fire Rescue personnel.

Rhodomoyer was cited for operation of a vehicle without official certificate of inspection.

• Jindrich Tomas, 83, of Saylorsburg, was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 11:45 a.m. Sept. 9 at the intersection of Weir Lake Road and Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township.

He was treated at the scene by West End Ambulance Association personnel and flown to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem. The extent of his injuries is unknown, police said.

Police said the crash occurred when he was driving a vehicle that was eastbound on Weir Lake Road, proceeding from a stop sign onto Route 115 without proper clearance when it was struck by a 2010 Ford E350 operated by Edward L. Koehler, 73, also of Saylorsburg. Koehler was not injured.

• Police said Bethany A. Nilsen, 33, of Albrightsville, was driving a 2013 Toyota Corolla eastbound at 8:34 a.m. Oct. 27 on Stony Mountain Road, in Penn Forest Township, when she had to swerve to avoid a deer on the road. Her vehicle went onto the berm and first struck a mailbox, then a tree, where it came to rest.

No one was injured. The vehicle was towed.
