Incident involving Tamaqua football team members under investigation

Tamaqua Area School District Superintendent, Ray Kinder, gave an update following circumstances that caused Tamaqua to forfeit its District 11 Class 3A football semifinal game against North Schuylkill last weekend.

An email from Tamaqua Athletic Director Mike Hromyak on Friday afternoon said the forfeit was “due to a situation within the high school and that no further information will be provided at this moment.”

Kinder’s note, which was posted on the district’s website Monday afternoon, said that members of the Tamaqua area administration, school police force and Tamaqua police have been conducting an investigation into “an incident involving members of the school’s football team.”

“This has continued throughout the weekend and into this week,” Kinder said in the letter.

“We have been taking appropriate measures identified under school policies, procedures and law. Due to the ongoing nature of this investigation regarding a student disciplinary matter of a juvenile nature, we are only permitted to share limited information. We ask that you respect this as we continue our process.”

Tamaqua police said an investigation is ongoing.

Further details regarding the incident have not been released at this time.
