Tamaqua has not released the reasons why it forfeited a playoff football game scheduled for Saturday.

Tamaqua was scheduled to play North Schuylkill Saturday afternoon in a District XI semifinal game.

A statement from the athletic director said the decision was due to a situation in the high school, and that no further information would be provided.

Tamaqua Police Chief Michael Hobbs said incidents in the school are investigated by the school’s own police force, which was created last year.

Tamaqua Area High School also has more than 60 students quarantined due to COVID-19.

Tamaqua School District did not respond to calls for comment Friday afternoon.
