Veterans Day ceremony

The West End American Legion is hosting an open community ceremony at 11 a.m. Nov. 11, preceded by an Honor Guard ceremony at 10:30 a.m.

There will be guest speakers and a light lunch will be provided.

Veterans event

Kunkletown will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Eldred Township Veterans Memorial at 490 Memorial Road, Kunkletown, at the municipal building.

All are welcome.

Pizza sale

McMichaels UMC is having a pizza sale. Order must be in to Martha Stout by Nov. 11.

Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network is selling Pocono Cheesecake Factory cheesecakes for pickup before Thanksgiving

Orders are due at PVEN by Nov. 12.

Pickup is set for Nov. 19, at the PVEN.

12 Angry Jurors

The Pleasant Valley High School Drama Club will present “12 Angry Jurors” on Nov. 12, 13 and 14.

The Friday and Saturday presentations are at 7 p.m.

The Sunday presentation will be at 2 p.m.

The presentation is being performed by a cast of 13 student actors, under the direction of Dan and Marcie Mulligan with production assistance by Donna Morris.

Pleasant Valley School District follows all state guidelines for COVID-19 safety precautions, so masks are required inside the building.

Tricky tray benefit

On Nov. 13, with doors opening at 9 a.m. and the drawing at 12:30 p.m., there will be a tricky tray benefit at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Brodheadsville.

That benefit is for disabled orphans in Ukraine.

There is an admission cost and over 150 baskets and gift certificates are part of the event.

Roast beef dinner

St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Saylorsburg, is bringing back its locally popular roast beef dinner as a drive-thru, takeout meal only on Nov. 13, serving only from 3 to 7 p.m., or until all meals are gone.

Pre-order is strongly recommended. Call 570-992-7311 and leave your name, phone number and the number of meals. Or email domehome@ptd.net and provide the same information.

The meal includes a generous helping of tender roast beef, gravy, potato, corn, coleslaw, roll and dessert.

St. Peter’s UMC is located at 924 Route 115 Saylorsburg, next to Dollar General.

Free concert

St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, invites the community to free concert at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 13.

It features Jennifer K. Eckhart and the band Stained Glass Road.

A meat or veggie lasagna dinner on Saturday, beginning at 5 p.m. is being offered by the church CIA group for a cost. Tickets are on sale through Nov. 7 services.

Filling deadline

The Polk Township Fire Company is selling filling. Orders need to be in by Nov. 14. Pickup is from 6 to 8 p.m., Nov. 23 and Nov. 24.

Patriot’s ball

The Legion Riders of the American Legion in Gilbert are sponsoring a Patriot’s Ball on Nov. 20, at The Center 100 Hotel, 7736 Adrienne Drive, Breiningsville.

Special speaker

James Osinski, a missionary of the Gospel to college students, will be speaking at Middlecreek Christian Church in Kresgeville on Nov. 21.

He is supported by the church, as well as other supporters, to be part of DiscipleMakers, a PA-based Christian campus ministry.

Osinski is currently serving students at Kutztown University to teach and encourage them to become disciples of God.

There will be a time of refreshments after the service.

Craft fair/bake sale

The Blue Ridge Hook & Ladder Fire Company Auxiliary is having a craft fair and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 21.

There will be crafts, including hand-knitted sweaters, crocheted items, natural soaps, gifts for the home, Liztech Pins and many other items.

Pictures can be taken with Santa from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In addition, the Auxiliary will be having its Spiderweave quilt raffle drawing, bake sale, and lunch will be served.

The firehouse is located on Route 115 across from Ye Olde Saylors Inn in Saylorsburg.

Free Thanksgiving dinner

The American Legion, Post 927, in Gilbert, will be the site of a free community Thanksgiving dinner from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 25, as hosted by the Legion and the West End Home Association.

All are welcome. Reservations are not required.

Kris Kringle Fest

The West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert will be a busy place for the weeks up to Dec. 23 as the Carbon County Fair is holding a Kris Kringle Fest at the West End Fair beginning on Nov. 26, 27 and 28, and covering three days each weekend, ending on Dec. 23, according to Bob Silliman.

Those weekends will feature a walk-thru light show, music, food and crafts. There is an admission cost.

The light show will be nonstop from 5 to 9 p.m. every Monday through Thursday through Dec. 23.

ID theft seminar

Rep. Jack Rader invites the community to attend an identity theft seminar from 5 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 1, at Chestnuthill Township Park Building in Brodheadsville. The guest speaker will be Dave Shallcross, director of Senior Protection from the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.
