Election work continues after polls close
Tuesday’s election is over, but for the Office of Elections and Registration, it is no rest for the weary.
The Office of Elections and Registration is accountable for the effective conduct of all elections and voter registration throughout Monroe County.
Responsibilities include the processing and updating of registration records, finding polling places, instructing district boards for each election, preparing ballots, programming and maintenance of election machines, preparation of absentee ballots and certifying vote totals.
Many important steps must be taken in order to assure a smooth and accurate election process, according to Monroe County Commissioners’ Chairman Sharon Laverdure.
Some local residents are making sure Tuesday’s election ballot processing will be free of fraud and any ballot tampering in Monroe County.
“We welcome anyone that wants to come and watch the process, as long as they are quiet and don’t disturb anyone,” Commissioner John Moyer said.
“I came because I want to observe and learn everything I can about the elections and voting process. That way when someone says the results were not accurate, I will be able to explain it was a fair and accurate election,” said Anne Tiracchia, who lives in the Stroudsburg.
After all the questions and accusations that were thrown around in the last presidential election, many people have become skeptical of any political election, according to Coolbaugh resident Peter Gadner, who came to keep his eye on the opening and processing of the ballots.
Paul Gasper of Stroud Township came to watch the process because he is running for magistrate.
Several other Monroe County residents came to observe as well, but declined to speak.
