House resolution to call for Halcovage investigation scheduled for vote

Reps. Jerry Knowles (R-Berks/Carbon/Schuylkill), Joe Kerwin (R- Schuylkill/Dauphin) and Tim Twardzik (R-Schuylkill) announced that House Resolution 99 is expected to receive a vote by the full House on Nov. 10.

The resolution calls on the House Judiciary Committee to begin an investigation of Schuylkill County Commissioner George F. Halcovage Jr. as to whether impeachment is necessary due to alleged misbehavior in office and violation of public trust.

“The House will be taking the next step in the process of the investigation of Schuylkill County Commissioner Halcovage,” the representatives said in a joint release. “This is very rare for legislators to ask for an investigation of a public official. Unfortunately, under the current circumstances, we believe it is necessary. We have an obligation to our constituents and all of Schuylkill County to determine the facts in this case and proceed accordingly.”

House Resolution 99 empowers the House Judiciary Committee and the Subcommittee on Courts to conduct an investigation of Commissioner Halcovage, to subpoena witnesses and other materials and take testimony. The members of the committee will work in a bipartisan manner to ensure that the due process rights of everyone involved have been safeguarded.
