Ballots have started arriving at the Schuylkill Transportation Center in Saint Clair.

As expected, the first ones were from Saint Clair, Al Gricoski, Schuylkill County elections director, said. Polls closed at 8 p.m. There are 125 precincts in the county.

Precanvasing of the mail-in and absentee ballots started at 1 p.m. By 8:55 p.m. the final batch was being processed in the computers.

Earlier in the day, Gricoski said everything was going “fairly smooth” so far, something he hopes will continue.

Schuylkill County Commissioner Barron “Boots” Hetherington said he was unaware of problems at the polling sites. He was in various ends of the county, including Tamaqua. Hetherington voted at 7 a.m. in Union Township. Commissioner Gary Hess said he voted about noon in Schuylkill Haven. He also didn’t know of any problems in the county voting wise.

Gricoski said it/s hard to predict the voter turnout ,especially during a municipal election. Numerous variables are at play including weather.
