Animals show off their spirit at Halloween pet parade

On Saturday morning Mother Nature cleared the skies just in time for the start of annual West End Park and Open Space Commission’s Halloween Pet Parade held at the park in Ross Township.

Twelve dogs and their owners vied for a win in one of the following categories: scariest, cutest and most original.

Actually there are no losers, because all the dogs go home with several dog biscuits.

“My dog Colbie turned 14 today so I am hoping he will be lucky,” said Rhonda Kwietnik, of Indian Mountain Lakes.

Maybe it was luck, but Kwietnik’s two dogs, Colbie and Gidget, won the cutest costumes category.

When Bartok and Ruffles won in the category of most original, for their Viking musicians costumes, their owner Greg Pierce laughed and said, “I have lots of different hats I put on them.”

Each winner received a $25 gift certificate for Berger’s Agway in Sciota. Supervisor Tina Drake donated the prizes.
