Nesquehoning council

Nesquehoning Borough Council acted on or discussed the following items during Wednesday’s council meeting:

• Accepted the resignation of Richard Stromelo from the borough planning commission. Letters of interest to fill the vacancy are now being accepted at the borough office 114 W. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning.

• Adopted the ordinance that named the new road off Emergency Lane in the Carbon County emergency complex on the Broad Mountain. The new road, which will lead to the multiuse emergency operations training center, will be called Public Safety Lane.

• Adopted an amendment for the snow parking ordinance. The amendment outlines where no parking will be permitted from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Nov. 1 to April 1 during a snow event where 3 inches or more is forecast; and for the duration of the storm and 48 hours immediately following the end of the storm until the snow is removed from those streets.

• Adopted Portnoff as the third-party collections agent for delinquent taxes; and approved a resolution that will inform Carbon County Tax Claim Bureau to no longer collect delinquent taxes for the borough.

• Councilwoman Rosemary Porembo highlighted a correspondence from Barry Isett and Associates, which serves the borough. The report states the company completed $2,167.50 work pro bono to assist 20 hours toward grant assistance. Out of that help, the borough secured $289,596 in grants.
