2021 election: Tamaqua area races

On Tuesday, Tamaqua area voters will be voting on candidates to fill local leadership positions.

Here’s who’s on the ballot.

Tamaqua Borough

Two contested races in the area are for borough council. Seeking three borough council seats for four-year terms are four representatives.

Current borough President David Mace (D), Mary Linkevich (R), Richie Linkhorst (R) and Kathy Kunkel (D/R).

Vying for two-year council term are Kathy Kunkel (D) and Jay A. Hollenbach, Jr. (R).

The following are running unopposed: Nathan J. Gerace (D/R), mayor; Pamela J. McCullion (D/R), tax collector; Betsy Melnick (D/R), auditor and Charles T. Rodgers (R), constable.

Four people will run unopposed for a four-year school director term: Nicholas E. Boyle (D/R), Bryan W. Miller (D/R), Mark D. Rother (D/R) and Nancy J. Jones (D/R).

Rush Township

Four people are running unopposed for separate positions in Rush Township: Robert Leibensperber (R), supervisor; Michele Kabilko (D/R), tax collector, Amy Werner (R), judge of election and Brittney Werner (R), inspector of election.

Four people will run unopposed for a four-year school director term in the Mahanoy Area School District: Karen E. Yedsena (D/R), John Honus (D/R), Steven Gnall (D/R) and Jim Mitchell (D/R).

Schuylkill Township

In Schuylkill Township, David A. Plachko will run unopposed for the six-year magisterial district judge position.

Gary T. Feathers (D/R) will run unopposed for a six-year supervisor term, while Paul Delpais (R) will be unopposed at tax collector. Edward J. Pollack (D) is running unopposed for the six-year constable position and Billy Zahora (R) is unopposed at auditor.

Walker Township

Four people will run unopposed for separate positions in Walker: Matthew O. Koch (R), supervisor; Diane Yvonne Malay (R), tax collector; Deborah L. Wagner (R), auditor (six-year term) and Roberta A. Felty, auditor (four-year term).

West Penn Township

Clifford G. Mongrain (D) and Jeff Bradford (R) will run for the six-year constable position.

Tony Prudenti (D/R) will run unopposed for supervisor in West Penn.

Helene Zeigler (D/R) will also be unopposed for tax collector and Delroy R. Haas (R) is unopposed for auditor.

Other choices

Voters across Schuylkill County will choose between Maria McLaughlin (D) and Kevin Brobson (R) for justice of the Supreme Court.

The Judge of the Superior Court race is between Timika Lane (D) and Megan Sullivan (R).

Two seats for the judge of the Commonwealth Court is between Lori A. Dumas (D), David Lee Spurgeon (D), Stacy Marie Wallace (R) and Drew Crompton (R).

Voters will choose two for the judge of the Court of Common Pleas between Christina E. Hale (D/R), James Conville (D) and Chris Hobbs (R).

A four-year sheriff term is up for grabs between Joseph G. Groody (D) and Douglas Litwhiler (R).

Michael A. O’Pake (D/R) will run unopposed for the four-year district attorney term, while Sharyn M. Yackenchick (R) is also unopposed for the two-year controller position.
