State police at Schuylkill Haven - crashes

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers:

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 11:43 a.m. on Oct. 8 along Pottsville Street in Port Carbon borough. Troopers said Melvin W. Renninger, 64, of Port Carbon, was driving a 2012 GMC Sierra eastbound when a westbound vehicle left its lane of travel and struck a mirror on the Sierra. The other driver then fled the scene. No injuries were reported.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 12:52 p.m. on Oct. 2 along Route 25 in Hegins Township. Troopers said Austin T. Miller, 19, of Valley View, driving a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, was westbound and texting on his cellphone when the vehicle slowly drifted off the road and struck a utility pole. The vehicle continued on and then struck a mailbox, brick wall and a second utility pole before coming to rest.

Miller was not injured. He was cited for texting while driving.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 3:22 p.m. on Oct. 1 along Route 61 in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Daniel S. Shappell, 30, of Pottsville, and Paul M. Marshall, 60, of Frackville, were both southbound. Marshall began to slow down with traffic when his 2022 Subaru Outback was struck in the rear by Shappell’s 2012 Volkswagen van.

No one was injured. The Volkswagen was towed.

Shappell was cited for following too closely.

• Troopers said Kyle S. Reppy, 22, of Orwigsburg, was driving a 2015 Toyota Rav4 westbound on Second Mountain Road in West Brunswick Township at 8:11 p.m. on Oct. 1 and going too fast to negotiate a left curve. Reppy lost control of the vehicle which swerved across the road, turned sideways and overturned onto its roof, then slid off the right shoulder of the road.

Reppy was not injured, but the vehicle was towed. He was cited for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.

• David J. McGovern, 73, of Schuylkill Haven, escaped injuries in a one-vehicle incident at 12:25 p.m. Oct. 15 on Route 61 in North Manheim Township.

Police said he was driving a 2015 BMW northbound when he suffered a medical emergency, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and strike a traffic sign.

• The driver of a 2020 Mercedez Benz and his passenger escaped injuries when the vehicle struck a deer on Route 61 in North Manheim Township at 1:40 a.m. Oct. 14.

Police said Edwin F. Yeich, 56, of Schuylkill Haven, was northbound when the incident happened.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.

• David J. Dodds, 18, of Saint Clair, was not injured when his 2004 Toyota Corolla struck a deer in the roadway at 12:40 a.m. Oct. 14 on Route 61 in North Manheim Township.

The car was towed from the scene.

• David J. McGovern, 73, of Schuylkill Haven, escaped injuries in a one-vehicle incident at 12:25 p.m. Oct. 15 on Route 61 in North Manheim Township, state police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks said.

• David J. Dodds, 18, of Saint Clair, was unhurt in an incident at 12:40 a.m. Oct. 14 on Route 61 in North Manheim Township, state police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks said.

He was driving a 2004 Toyota Corolla northbound when a deer entered the roadway from the right side. Police said Dodds was unsuccessful in attempting to avoid striking the deer.

The car sustained disabling damages and needed to be towed from the scene.
