Valdevit Earns First Team All-PSAC with 11th-place finish at Conference Championships

Senior Luke Valdevit paced the East Stroudsburg University men’s cross country with an 11th place finish to earn First Team All-PSAC honors at the conference championships on Friday morning at Kutztown.

Racing in the 8K at the North Campus Course, the Warriors took 12th out of 16 squads in the team standings with an average finishing time of 28:22.

Valdevit clocked a time of 26:42.7 to become just the third runner in program history to finish 11th at the conference championships. He captured All-PSAC honors for the first time in his career and joined Bill Woodring (1991) and Matt Stohl (1999) with the only 11th-place finishes.

Junior Camden Shaffer logged the next best finish for ESU in 73rd with a time of 28:34.7, and sophomore Cole Streisel was not far behind in 77th after clocking a time of 28:41.2.

Weatherly graduate Scott Zoscin also competed for ESU at the PSAC Championships. The freshman was 119th with a time of 30:16.0.

Valdevit was also named PSAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week earlier this season. He helped the Warriors finish seventh in the team standings at the DeSales Invitational on Saturday with a third-place individual finish. Valdevit crossed the line in a season-best time of 26:27.5.

It was the first time that Valdevit has earned Athlete of the Week accolades while at ESU. He became just the 11th ESU men’s cross country athlete to win the award since 2007 and first since Casey Ellis, who won the award twice during the 2019 season.

The Warriors’ runners will have one final opportunity to secure a spot at the NCAA DII Atlantic Region Championships as they head to Lock Haven on Saturday Oct. 30, for the Go Fast River Run.
