Carbon County court

A woman was sentenced to a prison term on Thursday in Carbon County court after pleading guilty in two pending criminal cases.

She was one of six defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Resisting count

Bobbie Jo Simmons, 40, who lists her address as the county prison where she is an inmate, pleaded to one count each of simple assault, resisting arrest and default in required appearance. In a plea deal with the district attorney’s office, a felony 2 aggravated assault charge was dropped.

She was arrested on the resisting and assault counts on Aug. 5 by Franklin Township police at Mooney’s Motel, State Road, where officers went to serve a warrant on her. She struggled with police and assaulted a township officer.

The warrant was issued when he failed to appear for a prison term on July 6. That led to the default on appearance charge.

Matika imposed a prison term of four to 23 months on both charges, with the terms running concurrently. She was also ordered to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations and follow any recommendations for treatment and render 50 hours of community service when paroled.

Other pleas

Jozef Michael Radecki, 58, of Lehighton, entered guilty pleas in three pending cases to one count each of persistent disorderly conduct for an incident on Feb. 5 in Franklin Township along Tatra Drive; criminal attempt-theft, for an incident on March 29 in Franklin Township, where he attempted to steal mail from a mailbox; and no slow moving emblem for an incident on April 18 in Franklin Township, along Green Street, where he was stopped riding a mower on the street. He is currently an inmate in the county prison on the charges.

On the conduct and attempt counts he was placed on probation for a year on each, running concurrently, and on the summary a fine of $150. He was also ordered to get a mental health evaluation.

Jonathan Gustave Bleich, 27, of Lehighton, pleaded in two pending cases to one count each of resisting arrest, false identification to law enforcement, for an incident on Aug. 9 at Miners Market filed by Franklin Township police; and possession of drug paraphernalia on the same day at the county prison where he was taken for the first incident.

On first two charges Matika sentenced him to time-served (74 days) to 23 months in prison and on the drug count one year probation, with the terms running concurrently. He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 75 hours of community service.

Carl Taylor Cressley, 47, of Lehighton, pleaded to a felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance for an incident on Nov. 15, 2019. State police at Hazleton executed a search warrant at a residence in Franklin Township following an ongoing investigation.

He also pleaded to two counts of DUI and driving under suspension for arrests on Sept. 11, 2020, filed by state police at Lehighton, following a stop along White Street in Weissport; and Feb. 4 by state police following a stop along Interchange Road in Franklin Township. Both counts are DUI of a controlled substance.

Sentencing was deferred so he can apply for the house arrest program.

Amanda Lea Kreitlow, 43, of East Stroudsburg, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana. She was arrested on March 27 by Franklin Township police along Main Road following a traffic stop.

She was ordered to pay a fine of $150 and costs.

On Monday he pleaded in another case to simple assault for an incident on Feb. 23, 2020, at the county prison where he admitted assaulting another inmate in a dispute over money owed. A felony aggravated assault count was dropped in a plea bargain.

Matika placed him on probation for a year on the assault count and imposed a fine of $150 on the drug charge.

He was also ordered to supply a DNA sample, render 50 hours of community service and no contact with the assault victim.

Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of over $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
