Garden club

The Lewistown Valley Garden Club held its recent meeting Sept 28. The program for the evening was by Susan Hower, and members made special crafts which were enjoyed by all.

First place arrangement winner was a tie, Sharon Herring and Mary Bridygham; second place rose arrangement in a vase.

Specimen winners, first, moonflower; second place, zinnia; third place, African blue basil and marigolds.

The October meeting will be held Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. (note earlier time) at Zion Church Social Hall in Lewistown Valley. This is the annual dinner meeting. This will consist of dinner and a social following.

There will be no arrangement or specimen judging.

Diaper Depot

The free diaper ministry at Zion Lutheran Church, Tamaqua, is accepting new clients for their Nov. 20 distribution.

You must be a resident of the Tamaqua Area School District and make a request at www.ziontamaqua.com by Oct. 29. You will be given an appointment time for the Nov. 20 distribution. The first time you pick up diapers, you must present a birth certificate for the child/children and some type of proof of residence. Diaper Depot is a community pantry of the Great Philadelphia Diaper Bank.

Tamaqua Seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on Oct. 14 with 32 members in attendance. The meeting was opened with the reading “I Need a Hand to Hold.”

The group meets every Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Coaldale Complex. Anyone 55 or older is invited to attend.

Veterans Day Parade

The Veterans Day Parade is on Nov. 6 at 10 a.m. The Tamaqua American Legion Post 173 will once again sponsor the parade and invite all veterans, businesses, fire companies, church groups, clubs and organizations to participate in the parade.

Andreas VFW

Andreas VFW Post 5069 will be holding a Veterans Day breakfast at the Mason Jar Restaurant on Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. Paid members and one guest are invited.
