Pleasant Vly. assistant principal resigns
Pleasant Valley School District’s board of directors extended the contract of its acting superintendent Thursday night, but in a last-minute addition to the agenda, lost another administrator.
Robinn Poole, assistant high school principal, resigned just one month after the board hired her. She was tabbed in September to replace David Sodl, who took a job in the Palmerton Area School District.
Pleasant Valley Solicitor Mark Fitzgerald said the district was accepting the resignation “in light of confidential personnel related matters.”
The resignation was not listed on the original agenda for Pleasant Valley’s meeting.
“We received the information late today,” Dr. Charlene Brennan, Pleasant Valley’s acting superintendent said.
Before being hired at Pleasant Valley, Poole worked for the New York City Department of Education, then the Essex County Vocational and Technical Schools in administration. More recently, she worked for Newark Public Schools as a vice principal of Science and Career and Technical Education.
Several residents asked for clarification on why Poole left, but Fitzgerald said the district does not address personnel matters.
“I don’t know what is going on in the human resources department,” resident Antoinette Gravell said during public comment. “People are coming and going, sometimes within the same day. Maybe we should look at human resources and who is conducting interviews. Our children deserve to have a full staff.”
Later in the meeting, the board extended Brennan through no later than June 15, 2022, as it continues to search for a permanent replacement for Dr. Lee Lesisko, who retired after one year on the job following the 2020-21 school year.
The original agreement called for Brennan to be with the district no longer than Nov. 1.
“The superintendent search is actively underway,” Board President Donna Yozwiak said Thursday. “We will continue working on this next week and hopefully have a candidate to announce in near future.”
