Woman sent to state prison for drug dealing

A woman was sentenced to a state prison term on Monday after pleading guilty to a drug dealing charge.

Sherry Ann Phillips, 45, formerly of Lansford and who lists her current address as the county prison, pleaded to a felony 3 count of criminal use of a communication facility. In exchange for the plea, criminal solicitation - contraband/controlled substance and conspiracy - contraband/controlled substance, felony 2s, were dropped by the district attorney’s office.

She also pleaded to a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The first count stems from an incident on July 27 at the county prison. She was brought to the prison by state police at Lehighton on a warrant. While being processed into the prison, heroin was found on her. The second incident occurred on Feb. 5 following a traffic stop by Nesquehoning police.

She admitted to a long-term drug addiction problem which led to her criminal record.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic accepted the pleas and sentenced her to serve one to two years in a state correctional institution on the first count and one to 12 months on the second charge with the terms running concurrently.

She was given credit for a total of 152 days already served.

She was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, pay court costs of over $1,000 and supply a DNA sample.
