Police charge man after drug buy

Tamaqua police reported a Hazleton man faces drug charges following a controlled buy made by investigators.

Chauncey Brian Hazel, 25, has been charged with two counts of possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance, and one count each of possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility. The possession count is a misdemeanor while the other three are felonies.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Tamaqua police and a member of the county drug task force used a confidential informant to arrange a drug purchase from Hazel on Oct. 7. The deal was arranged via cellphone between the informant and Hazle.

The CI met with Hazle in Tamaqua and gave him $800 for 29.5 grams of methamphetamine.

After the exchange was made police moved in and arrested Hazle, who had the $800 in his possession.

Hazle was arraigned before a district judge who set bail at $25,000 straight cash.
