Local roundup: Results from Oct. 13

The Tamaqua boys and girls cross country teams, along with the Jim Thorpe boys, all finished with perfect records Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Pleasant Valley’s girls soccer posted another big victory ahead of the upcoming Eastern Pennsylvania Conference tournament.

The Bears also got a win in field hockey action, as did the Tamaqua and Jim Thorpe boys’ soccer teams, Northwestern girls’s soccer squad and Panther Valley volleyball.

CROSS COUNTRY

Jim Thorpe-Nativity-

Pottsville-Mahanoy Area

A 1-2-3 finish helped the Jim Thorpe boys go undefeated in a meet at Mahanoy Area.

Ryan Bailor (18:27) placed first for the Olympians, while Ridge Snyder (18:52) and Jordan Remmel (19:42) were second and third, respectively, to help Thorpe top Mahanoy (22-34), Pottsville (24-31) and Nativity (21-35).

Kate Bos (21:31) had a second-place finish in the girls’ meet for Thorpe, which went 2-1, with wins over Mahanoy (20-39) and Nativity (15-50). Nicole Carroll also recorded a top-five finish.

Tamaqua-Schuylkill Haven

The Tamaqua boys and girls swept a Schuylkill League meet in Schuylkill Haven.

Grace Stegemerten won the girls’ race for the Raiders (3-0), while the Marian’s Albin Petschauer took the top spot in the boys’ race.

Levi Kunkel was second for the Tamaqua boys (3-0). Marian’s Grace Curnow recorded a runner-up finish in the girls meet.

Caden Kresge and Katie Wojton placed fourth for the Lehighton boys and girls, respectively.

VOLLEYBALL

Nativity-Panther Valley

Panther Valley knocked off Nativity for a 25-21, 25-18, 25-22 victory.

Sadie Trubilla paced the Panthers’ attack with 28 assists, 12 digs, four aces and two kills, while Abbey Vermillion added 15 kills, four digs, two aces and two blocks.

Chloe Diekman (20 digs) and Maddison Maynard (eight kills, one block) both helped PV (11-6 overall) secure the win.

Lehighton-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain swept Lehighton 25-18, 25-13, 25-17 in Schuylkill League action.

Megan Aaron led the way for the Indians with 11 digs and four kills, while Hailey Miller chipped in with 13 digs.

Mia Snyder (12 assists), Madelyn Sofranko (six digs) and Madilynn Stoffey (four kills) also contributed to the victory.

BOYS SOCCER

Pottsville-Tamaqua

A goal from Mateo Gomez lifted Tamaqua to a 2-1 Schuylkill League win over Pottsville in double overtime.

Jathan Krall’s second-half score on an assist from Cooper Ansbach tied the game at 1-1. Jon Ulicny made 12 saves in the victory.

Jim Thorpe-No. Schuylkill

A goal from Dawson Meckes in the first overtime pushed Jim Thorpe to a 2-1 Schuylkill League win over North Schuylkill.

Meckes finished off a perfect setup from TJ Dudak to lift the Olympians (10-4-3 overall; 8-2-3 SL) to their third overtime victory in four tries this season.

Ryan Monahan got the Olympians out in front with a first-half goal, which came off an assist from Hayden Hurd.

Jacob Geiser recorded four saves for Jim Thorpe.

Blue Mountain-Lehighton

Three second-half goals helped Blue Mountain pull away for a 5-1 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton.

Down by one in the first half, Nick Zeigenfuss accounted for the Indians’ lone goal to tie things up.

Bryce Miller finished with 18 saves for the Indians (6-9-2 overall; 3-7-2 SL).

Wilson-Northern Lehigh

Wilson rolled past Northern Lehigh for a 10-1 Colonial League victory.

Ethan Kunkle scored for the Bulldogs (0-17, 0-12).

GIRLS SOCCER

Catasauqua-Northwestern

Sophia Motolese’s huge game highlighted Northwestern’s 12-0 win over Catasauqua in Colonial League action.

Motolese had a hat trick and contributed four assists. Olivia Motolese scored twice for the Tigers, while Kate Edgar, Emilia Blechschmidt, Sarah Renner, Mia Delillo, Quinn Conrey, Jakayla Holmes and Syenna Flores also found the back of the net.

Katie Browning and Jayden Gillette each had two assists in the win. Sammy Bardonner, Brook Balliet and Lexi Vennera were all credited with assists, while Naomi Glassberg made two saves.

Stroudsburg-Pleasant Vy.

Ella Muir scored twice, and Pleasant Valley topped Stroudsburg 2-0 to close out the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference regular season with a bang.

Katelyn Hondel was credited with an assist on Muir’s second goal for the Bears, who notched their seventh win in a row to clinch the Mountain Division with a record of 9-0-1, while outscoring opponents 45-3.

Muir stepped back into the lineup after missing Monday’s games versus West due to injury, and was on fire from the start, winning possession and taking a shot from outside the 18 from the far left into the far corner for her first goal.

Sam Merklin made 13 saves in another dominant performance for PV, recording her seventh shutout in a row.

FIELD HOCKEY

Palmerton-Palisades

Palisades rallied past Palmerton for a 2-1 Colonial League win.

Claire Frank scored the Bombers’ only goal with 5:11 left in the first.

The Bombers (13-4-1 overall; 12-3-1 CL) held a 14-4 edge in shots, and a 9-4 edge in corners.

Shannon Dougherty finished with three saves for Palmerton.

Pleasant Valley-ES North

Pleasant Valley blanked East Stroudsburg North for a 4-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win.

Four different players scored for the Bears, as Heather Todaro, Candyce Fougere, Molly Sobers and Arianna Mulligan all found the back of the cage.

Mattison Hyland added three assists for PV (6-11 overall; 6-11 EPC), while Todaro was credited with one.
