Lee G. Becker, a member of the Mahoning Valley Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 for more than half of his life, was honored by his fellow firefighters Saturday night as “Fireman of the Year.”
Becker, who has been the fire company president for the past five years, received the award at the company’s seventh annual awards dinner held in the company hall.
Presenting him the plaque was Carbon County Commissioner Dean D.W. DeLong, a fire company member who cited Becker’s dedication to the fire company during his 21 years as a member.
Becker, husband of the former Kay Serfass and son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Becker, joined the company in July 1966, a year after graduating from Lehighton Area High School.
