Carbon to reprint Lehighton ballots after error is discovered

A misprint on mail-in ballots for Lehighton is being corrected.

On Tuesday, during a special meeting of the Carbon County Election Board, the board voted 2-0 to approve the change to the Lehighton ballot for the 2021 municipal election. Commissioner Rocky Ahner was not present at the meeting so Commissioner Chris Lukasevich, who normally abstains from voting due to his support of a candidate, voted in favor of the motion to allow the motion to pass.

Lisa Dart, county elections director, said that the issue was in the Lehighton Borough Council ballot. It was supposed to be vote for no more than three, but the ballot was to choose only two.

Dart said no incorrect ballots were mailed out and her office would be getting the ballots printed and hopes to have them mailed out to Lehighton voters who requested ballots by Friday.

For voters who want to submit their ballot in person, they can do so at the elections bureau office at 410 Center Ave., which will have extended hours until 6 p.m. on Oct. 18-21, Oct. 25-28, and Nov. 1.

For more information or questions, call the bureau at 570-325-4801.

In other matters, Carbon County is still looking for a handful of people to serve as judges of elections and elections clerks.

Any Carbon County resident interested should call the election bureau. You do not need to reside in the precinct in which you would be serving.
