Tamaqua Chamber announces scarecrow contest

Time to get your decorating on.

The Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce announced the start of its annual scarecrow decorating contest, which is open to all businesses and organizations in the Tamaqua area.

“This event is a fun event for the whole community,” said Aimee Dotson, chamber office and outreach administrator.

“We invite businesses, clubs, individuals and organizations to participate. “We ask that scarecrows be placed outside in a place that is visible from the street or sidewalk.”

Participants are encouraged to create a scarecrow in the theme of their business, personal profession, favorite animal or person. There is no cost.

“You don’t have to be a member to participate,” Dotson said.

“We have had a lot of participation in this event in the past. It’s a great activity for the businesses as well as the public who will be able to vote for their favorite on the Tamaqua Chamber Facebook page. As always we look forward to seeing everyone’s creativity.”

Winners will be announced Oct. 29 for the scariest, funniest and most creative scarecrows.

To register, contact the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce to fill out a registration form, which should be sent to chamber@tamaqua.net.

The registration deadline is Oct. 22. Scarecrows must be displayed by Oct. 26.
