Registration for the 26th annual Jim Thorpe Halloween Parade is still open for organizations that would like to participate.

The parade, hosted by the Jim Thorpe Lions Club, will take place at 2 p.m. on Oct. 23, with a rain date of Oct. 24. Lineup time for participants is at 1 p.m. at the Jim Thorpe High School.

The parade will kick off at the high school and march down Center Street and turn on Ninth. It will then continue on North Street. It will end at Third and Center streets.

Route 903 traffic, between Fifth and 10th streets, will be detoured from 1:45 p.m. until the parade passes Fifth Street. The detour will pass Evergreen and St. Joseph cemeteries.

Buses will then take participants back to Memorial Park for refreshments. Awards for the best float, best group and most original will also be awarded.

This year, the parade grand marshal is Shawn Kresge.

Kresge was raised in Franklin Township and graduated from Lehighton Area School District before starting his career as a licensed master electrician and Kresge Electric Services.

Kresge has been in business for 25 years and has branched out to include construction management, helping to rebuild Country Junction and the replacement of the deck at Molly Maguire’s Pub.

In addition to his business, he also manages properties with Shawn Kresge Real Estate.

Growing up, he was a member of the Carbon County 4-H, Boy Scouts of American and was a volunteer firefighter at Franklin Township before joining Jim Thorpe and Penn Forest fire companies.

He has supported local SADD programs, the Franklin Township Little League Association and the Sam Miller Playground Association.

Kresge currently sits on the advisory board of the Mauch Chunk Trust Company, the Carbon County Airport Authority and as an alternate of the Penn Forest Zoning Board.

He and his fiancee, Sara, reside in Penn Forest Township along with their Labrador retriever, Stella.
