80-year-old map bequeathed to Towamensing Township

A near-century-old map has been bequeathed to Towamensing Township on behalf of its historical commission.

The map was presented during Thursday’s board of supervisors meeting by the Towamensing Township Historical Commission.

Historical commission member Jack Branch said the 3-by-4-foot map is from 1941 and shows roads in Carbon County.

Branch noted the map is from the collection of the late Elwood Christman.

“His family gave it to us, and we decided we want to give it to you,” Branch said. “I hope you enjoy, and find it useful and entertaining.”

Branch said the map was framed by Robert and Connie Reinhart of Palmerton.

The presentation was followed by a round of applause toward the historical commission for its kind gesture.
