Towamensing Township has finalized its plans for the disbursement of its 2021 fire relief funds.
On a unanimous measure, township supervisors on Thursday agreed to divvy up its roughly $24,000 in fire relief funds among several fire departments.
Towamensing Township Fire Department will receive $12,000, while supporting volunteer departments in Polk Township, Franklin Township and Aquashicola will each receive $4,000.
Before the vote, Supervisor John Kleintop said he was “very disappointed” to see the township’s allotment of firemen’s relief money was down by about $10,000 from the year prior.
Board Chairman Guy Seifert heaped praise on the township’s fire department.
“We’re a lot more proactive than we were last year,” Seifert said of the fire department.
Kleintop noted that while there’s no way to make everybody happy when they get less money, he believes the township’s fire department deserves to get the majority of the funds.
“I think Towamensing is deserving of the lion’s share,” he said. “I still think we have an obligation to share with the other three (fire departments) as well.”
