Slatington woman struck while crossing street

A pedestrian suffered minor injuries after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street Friday afternoon in Palmerton.

Borough police Chief Randy Smith said the incident occurred at 2:39 p.m. when a truck operated by Richard Steigerwalt, 83, of Palmerton, was stopped at a red light on Fifth Street.

Smith said when the traffic light turned green, the vehicle started to proceed, at which time Sharon Bratton, 68, of Slatington, walked into the roadway without proper clearance and was struck by the vehicle.

He added there were three other witnesses who verified that the woman walked out into the roadway.

Smith said Bratton was checked by Palmerton Ambulance, and taken to St. Luke’s Lehighton Campus.

He said no citations were filed.
