Cellphone tower plans advance in Lower Towamensing

Cellphone tower plans several years in the making are close to fruition in Lower Towamensing Township.

Palmerton Area School District Facilities Manager Joe Faenza, during a school board workshop Tuesday night, said the Verizon tower would be located on district property off Dusty Lane, to the north of Fireline Road.

“We have 32.85 acres across from the high school/junior high property and that’s where it would be located,” Faenza said. “There is a meeting in Lower Towamensing this week, and based on the previous discussions, I don’t suspect it will be shot down. We’re getting close.”

According to previous discussion at Lower Towamensing meetings, the tower would be 235 feet tall and a fence around the exterior will enclose it from the public.

The school district, Faenza said, figures to receive around $1,500 a month in compensation for having the tower located on its property.

“That was an old number, so that may have even gone up a little bit,” Faenza said.

After Verizon gets approval on its drawings, he added, it will apply for a building permit.

“They told us the equipment takes about seven months to come in, so it would be constructed sometime in 2022,” Faenza said.
