Local roundup: Results from Oct. 6

The Northwestern boys soccer and field hockey teams, as well as the Pleasant Valley girls soccer and volleyball squads, all posted victories on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Palmerton recorded a win in girls soccer action, while Northern Lehigh posted a field hockey victory.

BOYS SOCCER

Northern Lehigh-Northwestern

Matt Johnson sparked Northwestern to a 4-0 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Johnson had a goal and an assist for the Tigers (10-3-1 overall; 7-3 CL). Phillip Taylor, Josh Zellner and Lucas Van Lierop also scored in the win, while Jack Mauro was credited with an assist.

Ethan Kunkle finished with 20 saves for the Bulldogs (0-12; 0-8).

Pottsville-Lehighton

Lehighton and Pottsville played to a 3-3 tie after two overtime periods in Schuylkill League action.

Mason Nailor scored twice for the Tribe, while AJ Light also added a goal. Bryce Miller made 21 saves for Lehighton.

GIRLS SOCCER Jim Thorpe-Pine Grove

Abbey Frew’s second-half goal lifted Pine Grove to a 1-0 victory over Jim Thorpe in Schuylkill League play.

Taylor Ott stopped four shots for the Cardinals.

Kate Bos made six saves for the Olympians.

North Schuylkill-Minersville

Jim Thorpe boys’ and girls both went 2-1 overall in a Schuylkill League meet at Minersville.

Ridge Snyder paced the Olympians with a third-place finish in the boys’ meet, while Katelyn Bos matched that effort with her own third-place result for JT in the girls’ meet.

Katie Wojton crossed the finish line in seventh place for the Tribe. Owen Serfass finished in eighth place for Indians in the boys’ meet.

The Tamaqua boys went 2-1 in a Schuylkill League meet at Blue Mountain.

Levi Kunkel and Jesse Gormley paced the Blue Raiders with top-five finishes, as Kunkel and Gormley crossed the finish line in third and fourth, respectively.

Grace Stegemerten led the Lady Raiders, who went 1-2 on the day, with a third-place finish.

ES South-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley swept East Stroudsburg South 25-6, 25-3, 25-4 in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference match.

Nora Jones had a strong all-around match for the Bears with five service points, five kills, three assists, three digs and two aces. Jackie James (14 service points, six kills and three digs); Brianna Bruckman (15 assists, seven service points); Hannah Akob (12 service points, five kills, three assists) and Lexi Womack (10 service points, seven kills) also played well for the Bears.

Pleasant Valley improved its record to 5-8 on the season.

FIELD HOCKEY

Salisbury-Northwestern

Josey Wehr’s two goals highlighted Northwestern’s 4-1 Colonial League win over Salisbury.

Brynn Balliet and Cara Thomas also found the back of the cage for the Tigers, while both Brinley Rex and Charlize Bobbyn were credited with assists.

Sophia Ascani scored for the Falcons.

Northern Lehigh-Catasauqua

Northern Lehigh rolled to a 5-0 victory over Catasauqua in Colonial League action.

Delaney Szwast had three goals for the Bulldogs, who also saw Olivia Horninger and Gabby Myster score. Myster, Olivia Handwerk and Delia Quier all had assists.

Palmerton-Southern Lehigh

Iris Gluck scored twice to help undefeated Southern Lehigh secure a 3-1 Colonial League win over Palmerton.

Brianna Stock also scored on an assist from Riley MacIntosh for the Spartans (13-0-0, 12-0-0).

Skylar Kohler scored off a corner in the second quarter for the Bombers (11-3-1, 10-2-1).

GIRLS SOCCER

Palisades-Palmerton

Palmerton cruised to a 5-1 victory over Palisades in Colonial League action.

Brianna Moore and Nataly Walters both scored two goals for the Bombers, while Beth Morgan chipped in with a goal and two assists. Ella Baumgardt was credited with an assist.

Emma Snyder grabbed five saves for Palmerton (12-2 overall; 7-2 CL).

ES South-Pleasant Valley

Lexi Weaver’s two goals and an assist highlighted Pleasant Valley’s 7-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over East Stroudsburg South.

Alexa Pridham, Aliyah Williams and Ella Muir all chipped in with a goal and an assist for the Bears, while Riley Green and Autumn Castro also scored. Hailey Klien and Katelyn Honadel were both credited with assists.

Sam Merklin recorded her sixth shutout on the season thanks to two saves for the Bears (8-4-2 overall; 6-4-2 EPC).
