Firefighters were called to a dumpster fire behind St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Orwigsburg Saturday that spread smoke inside the structure.

An employee of the Schuylkill County Communications Center said the fire came in as an unknown type fire at 9:22 p.m. at 215 N. Warren St.

The fire was mostly extinguished with a fire extinguisher, he said. It was contained to the dumpster. Firefighters went inside to check the church.

The scene was cleared at 10:19 p.m., the communications center said.

Responding were the Orwigsburg Fire Department, and fire companies from Landingville, Deer Lake and two from Schuylkill Haven. The Orwigsburg Police Department also was on scene.
