Several injured in Blue Mountain Drive crash

Several people were injured, one seriously in a violent crash Saturday afternoon in Lower Towamensing Township. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. along Blue Mountain Drive near the entrance to the Blue Mountain Ski Lodge lower control base.

Witnesses at the scene report a man operating a Ford Mustang convertible going south made an illegal pass, colliding head-on with a sport utility vehicle traveling north.

Two of the occupants of the SUV were transported by two Medevac helicopters to a Lehigh Valley area trauma center. The driver of the Mustang, the most critically injured, was transported by ambulance also to a Lehigh Valley area trauma center.

Responding was the Lower Towamensing Township fire company, who assisted in the extrication of the victims.

State police at Lehighton are investigating the incident.

Witnesses at the site said the staff of the Blue Mountain ski lodge responded to the scene, helping to extricate those trapped and treating the victims.
