Lehighton teen pleads guilty in shooting death

A Lehighton teen admitted to a fatal shooting of another last year in what prosecutors said was a marijuana sale turned robbery.

Gabriel Ramos, now 19, entered a guilty plea to charges of third-degree murder and conspiracy in Northampton County Court on Friday.

On Sept. 29, 2020, Ramos fired the shots which fatally injured 17-year-old Aiden Toussaint, a student at Whitehall Area High School. Ramos was 18 at the time and still a high school student himself.

Three other teenagers who allegedly participated in the robbery have also pleaded guilty to their roles in the incident.

One of Ramos’ co-defendants, 16-year-old Isaac Bringuez, reportedly told police after the shooting that they had planned to rob Touissant at Saucon Park, outside Bethlehem. They had arranged to purchase about $700 worth of marijuana from him.

During the botched drug deal, Bringuez said he saw Toussaint pull out a gun, which later turned out to be a BB gun. Ramos in turn drew a gun which he was carrying which Bringuez said had a red laser sight.

The men fled the car, and Toussaint chased after them. Toussaint’s girlfriend told police she saw the red laser sight, then heard a gunshot and saw Toussaint had been shot.

She and Toussaint’s brother put him in their car and drove toward the Bethlehem, where they flagged down police who transported him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m.

The Northampton County District Attorney announced charges against Ramos, Bringuez and Christopher Nieves, also 16. An 18-year-old woman, Danielle Lyons, who allegedly drove the defendants to the drug deal was also charged.

Lyons, Bringuez, and Nieves have each pleaded guilty to robbery and conspiracy, and Bringuez and Nieves have also pleaded guilty to assault.

Sentencing for all four defendants is scheduled for Nov. 22.
