11th annual Palmerton Scarecrow displays return

It’s the time of year when Palmerton is all decked out in scarecrows.

The Palmerton Area Chamber of Commerce invites the community to decorate their front doorsteps with scarecrows for the month of October as part of the 11th annual Palmerton Scarecrow display.

They can display scarecrows in front of their building or in their storefront window for the entire month, according to chamber co-chair Marj Federanich, who said the display helps attract visitors to the borough.

“Delaware Avenue is kind of a thoroughfare for many places,” Federanich said. “It spruces up the town, shows that the town is active, that the people care; that we all want to do things and follow up with events and keep Palmerton on the map.”

Participants are asked to be creative, and let their scarecrow showcase their business. For residential displays, an ideal location is the front of their homes.

However, Federanich noted it is not a contest.

“Let’s see how many we get out this year, and spook up our town,” she said.

Those in need of a stand may contact Palmerton Lumber Company to make arrangements. A small fee will be charged, as limited supplies remain.

Participants are encouraged to share photos of their displays on social media #PalmertonScarecrows to be featured on the Chambers’ pages.

Anyone with questions about this year’s scarecrow decorations may contact Federanich at 610-826-5777.
