State police at Schuylkill Haven - crashes

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on crashes:

•A one-vehicle crash at 8:23 p.m. Sept. 29 on the Cressona Road in North Manheim Township.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

• A crash at 2:09 p.m. on Sept. 18 along Route 901 in Barry Township. Troopers said Jorge Torres, 29, of Souderton, was driving a Yamaha motorcycle eastbound with a group of bikers when he said another biker was slowing down. He attempted to slow down, hit his brakes too fast, which caused him to be thrown off the bike.

Torres reported injuries at the scene but refused medical attention. He was cited for following too closely.

• A 2008 Volkswagen Jetta was towed from the scene of a mishap on Route 61 in West Brunswick Township at 11:18 p.m. Sept. 23.

Police said the vehicle was driven by Zoe Fessler, 18, of Auburn, when it hit large rocks that fell onto the roadway, resulting in the undercarriage of the vehicle being damaged.

The driver was uninjured.

• Daniel R. Meade, 50, of Mount Carmel, was cited with following too closely after a vehicle he was driving struck the rear of a tractor trailer at 11:09 p.m. Sept. 17 on Route 61 in North Manheim Township.

Police said he was driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla northbound when it hit the back of the 2022 Freightliner operated by Aleksey Dimov, 65, of Jacksonville, Florida.

Police said Meade sustained suspected minor injuries and was transported to the Reading Hospital by Pottsville/Schuylkill Javen Area EMS personnel.

• Derek Shenk, 32, of Schuylkill Haven, is facing charges of driving under the influence after a one-vehicle crash at 3:05 a.m. Sept. 1 at the intersection of West Adamsdale and South Greenview roads in North Manheim Township.

State police said he was driving a 2004 Cadillac Escalade that ran a stop sign and crashed into a traffic sign and embankment, causing disabling damages.

After suspecting the man to be driving under the influence, he was transported to an area hospital for testing, police said.
