State police at Lehighton - crashes

State police at Lehighton reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers:

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 4:21 p.m. on Sept. 24 along Route 209 (Interchange Road), in Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Ariana M. Ahadi, 27, of Chadds Ford, Delaware County, was driving a 1997 Toyota Avalon eastbound when she overtook a vehicle that had stopped in front of her and traveled onto the front lawn of a property, striking a Realtor sign and then a utility pole.

Ahadi and her passenger, Sarah M. Osowski, 24, of Center Valley, Lehigh County, were not injured. Troopers cited Ahadi for following too closely.

• A hit-and-run crash was reported on Sept. 22 at 11:41 p.m. along Route 209 at the intersection with Burger Hollow Road, in Polk Township, Monroe County. Troopers said a vehicle was driven southbound when it was struck by another vehicle.

The driver of the striking vehicle then fled the scene. The driver of the struck vehicle, who troopers declined to identify, was not injured. Troopers noted the other driver was subsequently located at a different location. Troopers did not release the hit-and-run driver’s name.

• Robert J. Rotz, 76, of Albrightsville, was not injured when he fell asleep while driving a vehicle that crashed at 8 p.m. Sept. 22 on Route 903 in Penn Forest Township.

Police said he was driving a 2011 Kia Optima northbound and was fatigued at the time, falling asleep while the vehicle traveled on a straight portion of the roadway.

The vehicle left the right side of the road, traveled over a soft earth shoulder and its undercarriage struck a ditch, sustaining disabling damages.

The vehicle was towed from the scene.

• A crash happened at 6:57 p.m. Tuesday when a deer ran into a car on Blue Mountain Drive, between Lower Smith Gap Road and Mountain Trail Drive in Lower Towamensing Township.

Police said the 2008 Kia Sportage was southbound when the deer ran into the roadway and struck the front passenger side. The vehicle sustained nondisabling damages but was towed from the scene at the request of the owner, who was not injured, police said.
