Lansford man charged with rape of girl, 4

A Lansford man has been charged with raping a child while babysitting.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Joshua Tom of the Lansford Borough Police Department in the case against Alexander Kibler.

On July 1, Tom responded to a call in the 800 block of East Patterson Street where a woman said she believed her 4-year-old daughter was sexually assaulted by her babysitter, Kibler, 19.

The woman said she left to run errands with another woman and that she left her 4-year-old daughter with Kibler as she has done in the past, as he always watched her daughter at her residence.

Upon returning later that evening, the woman said her daughter said that Kibler while in the bathroom of the residence pulled her underwear down.

The woman called for the police, and Tom advised her to not ask her daughter anything else about the incident until a Child Advocacy Center interview could be conducted.

At 8:25 p.m. that day, a CAC emergency interview and physical exam was completed by the Children’s Advocacy Center in Scranton, where the child disclosed that Kibler took her up into the bathroom and performed a sexual act on her.

The child during the interview focused on what took place that day, however, she stated throughout that Kibler did these same things several times in the past, but did not disclose any further details.

On July 13, Tom conducted an interview with Kibler at his home, at which time he did admit that he does know why he did it, but tried having sex with the victim.

Kibler faces charges of criminal attempt; rape - intercourse with victim less than 13 years of age; statutory sexual assault; aggravated indecent assault; indecent assault; endangering welfare of children; and corruption of minors.

He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 cash bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Oct. 13 before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek of Lansford.
