An elderly Monroe County woman has been scammed out of over $160,000, state police at Fern Ridge reported.

Troopers said a 80-year-old from Sciota, Chestnuthill Township, reported being contacted by an unknown person who said they were associated with the Publisher Clearing House. The person requested that she send them money in order to be a grand winner of their sweepstakes.

The woman ultimately mailed the parties multiple cashier’s checks ranging up to $163,000. Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers at 570-646-2271.
