Schuylkill County will continue to house prisoners in the Centre County Correctional Facility after commissioners approved an agreement Wednesday.
The Bellefonte location houses most of the out-of-county inmates. The agreement is effective Jan. 1, 2021, to Dec. 31, 2023, at a rate of $65 each prisoner daily.
Columbia, Northumberland and other counties have housed inmates.
In other prison items, commissioners voted for McClure Co., Wilkes-Barre, to replace heating water piping in the prison at a cost of $26,942. The term of the work is from Sept. 27 to Dec. 31. The company was also chosen to install a new back flow preventer and rework domestic water piping at a cost of $77,835. The term of the work is from Sept. 27 to June 30, 2022.
Approval was also given to advertise for bids for interior renovations for the MIS department at 324 N. Centre St., Pottsville. The project will have three contracts, general construction, mechanical and electrical. Bids will be accepted in the county controller’s office to 4 p.m. Oct. 6 and reported at the commissioners’ work session at 10 a.m. Oct. 13 is the tentative award date. A mandatory pre-bid meeting was scheduled for Sept. 24.
