Penn Forest fire prevention event set

Penn Forest Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 will be having a Fire Prevention and Housing event on Oct. 2 from noon-4 p.m.

Fire Prevention is held annually the first full week of October. Bring your family, meet the firefighters, and learn what you should know about fire prevention. There will also be children’s activities, fire demonstrations, food, photo ops, and a visit from Sparky.

The fire department will also complete its truck housing ceremony at 3:45 p.m. for its newest apparatus, E1211. Housing tradition dates back to the late 1800s when horses were used to pull fire apparatus to fires. When a company would return from a call, members would disconnect the horses from the rig and push the apparatus back into the firehouse.

Firefighters hold to this tradition by pushing new apparatus into the station.

All activities will be held at the firehouse located at 1387 Route 903, Jim Thorpe.
