Credit defaults

The following actions were filed by credit card companies, or their collection agencies, for alleged defaults on credit card/loan accounts.

Discover Bank, New Albany, Ohio, filed an action against Shannon P. Kane, 11 Rhododendron Circle, Jim Thorpe, seeking $18,500.73

Portfolio Recovery Associates, Norfolk, Virginia, filed the following actions: Edward Eidem Jr., 1862 Long Run Road, Lehighton, seeking $657.69; Nathan Henry, 867 Edgemont Ave., Palmerton, seeking $1,869.58; Jullian Silverman, 283 Avenue B, Palmerton, seeking $974.51; and Eric Gonzalez, 688 Mountain Road, Albrightsville, seeking $4,137.74.

Midland Funding, Horsham, filed an action against Ann Smithers, 411 E. Kline Ave., Lansford, seeking $720.08.

UHG I, Williamsville, New York, filed an action against Joshua B. Kuller, 321 North St., Jim Thorpe, seeking $9,583.67.

First Portfolio, Peachtree, Georgia, filed an action against Anita L. Selby, 12 Mindy Lane, Albrightsville, seeking $5,774.66.

Mortgage foreclosures

The following actions were filed as mortgage foreclosures for alleged defaults on loans.

MidFirst Bank, c/o 999 NW Grand Blvd., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, filed an action against Ashley S. Hering, 266 Mountain Road, Albrightsville, over property at that address. Sought is $96,980.19 and continuing interest.

Mauch Chunk Trust Company, 1111 North St., Jim Thorpe, filed an action against James J. Jackson, widower, 105 White Birch Road, Lehighton, over property at that address. Sought is $92,131.60 and continuing interest.

Bill owed

HOP Energy LLC, 841 Lincoln Ave., West Chester, filed an action against April Rasmussen, 93 Shawnee Trail, Albrightsville, alleging she owes a bill for services provided. Sought is $954.44 plus interest, costs and fees.

Register of Wills

The Register of Wills & Clerk of Orphans Court, Jean A. Papay, has released the following for the end of the month of August.

Total files opened in the office were: testamentary/administration, 21; incapacitations/guardianship, 1; terminations of parental rights, 2; adoptions, 1; revenue, 12; affidavit of death, 1; small estate affidavit, 4 (not given file numbers); miscellaneous, 4; total files opened, 45.

Total marriage licenses issued, 50; genealogy research, numerous.

Acting agent for the state department of revenue for the collection of inheritance tax: collected, $969,234.49; commission, $1,685.88, transferred to the county general fund.

• Current and older marriage license information has been indexed into the computer, completing records back to 1952.

Total fees collected: county fees, $11,876.10; commission fee to county general fund, $1,685.88; total to county general fund, $14,665.37; judicial computer fees (state), $1,288; state tax and trust fund (state), $2,313; county data processing fee, $952.50; and automation fee, $445.

Clerk of courts

Clerk of Courts Tyra L. Boni released the statistical report of activities for her offices for the month of August.

There were 160 new cases opened in August with the following breakdown:

Criminal - 92; miscellaneous - 59; summary appeals - 9. There were 8,153 docket entries.

The office processed bail for 111 defendants, which included 14 cash bail payments totaling $17,350.

There were 253 plea and sentencing court hearings scheduled in July with the following breakdown: 113 guilty pleas were entered, 121 defendants entered into ARD and the remaining were either sentenced or entered a continuance in their case.

Cost sheets processed, 71; judgments files, 93; delinquency notifications (SMS, 113/U.S. mail, 444).

Monthly finances included total payments collected $151,464.27; bail refunds totaling $11,489.50; restitution payments totaling $14,727.17 and total disbursements of $139,252.65, which included payments to victims and taxpayers, $3,608.01 to boroughs and municipalities, $49,780.65 state department of revenue, $2,115.40 to the prothonotary for payment of judgments, $51,899.83 to the Carbon County General Fund which includes fees paid for adult probation monitoring, adult probation offender supervision fee, clerk of courts automation fee, community service fees, juvenile offender supervision fee, substance abuse education fee, county victim service fee, veterans treatment court fee, centralized booking fee (centralized/ livescan), and county restitution.
