Borough to start ticketing vehicles that park on sidewalks by Nov. 1

Vehicles that park on sidewalks in Palmerton would be wise to rethink that approach or be ticketed come Nov. 1.

Councilwoman Holly Hausman-Sell noted at Thursday’s borough council meeting that it’s illegal to do so because it damages properties.

However, Mayor William Gallagher said the issue has not been enforced for years.

Gallagher said he doesn’t believe it would be right to just start citing vehicles without any fair warning.

He said he believes there should be some sort of warning period, but agrees the vehicles should be cited over time.

Hausman-Sell remained steadfast in her belief.

“The law is the law,” Hausman-Sell said. “I don’t know why it wasn’t enforced.”

Council agreed that starting Nov. 1, tickets will be issued.
